Washington Attorney General Aims at Used Car Protections

After more than 500 residents of the state filed complaints with the Washington Attorney General’s Office over used car sales, Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced that he is launching a proposal for legislation to create an un-waivable warranty for used car purchases. The so-called “Lemon Law” will mean when used cars break down or malfunction shortly after purchase, Washington residents will have the right to a full refund, or the dealer must cover most of the costs of mechanical repairs. The Used Motor Vehicles Express Warranties Act will cover vehicles on a sliding scale depending on the number of miles that are on the odometer at purchase, but vehicles with more than 125,000 miles on them, would have no warranty protections.
