Fall Back and Check Smoke Alarms

This Sunday marks the end of daylight saving time. Remember to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to sleep Saturday night. It’s also a good time, according to the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office, to change your smoke alarm batteries. Working smoke alarms save lives by cutting the risk of dying in a home fire by half. But unfortunately, they could save even more lives that are lost needlessly because so many smoke alarms are not operational. Some smoke alarms have non-replaceable 10-year batteries, and are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. If they begin to chirp though, that’s a warning that the battery is low, so replace the entire smoke alarm right away. Also, replace any smoke alarm if the manufacture date is more than 10 years old.
