Sturgeon Stoppage

On two sections of the Columbia River mainstem, recreational retention fishing for white sturgeon is now off limits. On Tuesday, fishery managers in both Oregon and Washington, announced that the Dalles Pool, which lies between The Dalles Dam and John Day Dam is closed to sturgeon retention beginning today. Meanwhile, the John Day Pool, which is between John Day Dam and McNary Dam, will close beginning on Monday. The decision to close the pools comes as wildlife managers from both states agreed that both pools were approaching their pre-approved guidelines for the 2023 fishing seasons.
