Robocalls Targeted

Legislation has been proposed in Washington State, that if passed into law, would hold telecommunications providers accountable for allowing illegal robocalls. According to the Washington State Attorney General’s Office, an estimated 835,000 Washingtonians lost money to scam robocalls in 2021. Sponsors of the proposal, say Washington’s current anti-robocalling law is weak and out-of-date. The new law would make it a violation of the Consumer Protection Act to robocall someone on the Do Not Call Registry; Deliberately falsify the caller ID display to disguise the caller’s identity; or knowingly facilitate illegal robocalls if you are a voice service provider.
