Avalanche Concerns Close Road

Several miles of U.S. Highway 12 have been closed off due to avalanche hazards. The gates at Fish Creek (milepost 126) and Saddle Camp Road (milepost 139) are being closed, and recreationists or drivers who are already in the corridor of the closure have been notified. It remains uncertain just when the road will reopen. Meanwhile, avalanche specialists with ITD have been brought in to help local maintenance crews reassess conditions and decide when it is safe to reopen the highway. The last avalanche to reach that highway was last January, ahen a major storm triggered an avalanche that dropped trees, resulting in the closure of US-12 for about four days.
